Dental crown

A dental crown is a type of dental prosthesis that completely covers or encloses a tooth or dental implant. The crown restores the normal shape, size and function of the tooth and improves its appearance. The crown is usually made of ceramic.

Crowns are usually used to repair teeth that are broken, worn, or have a large filling. They can also be used to secure a dental bridge, cover a dental implant, or protect a weak tooth from breaking. Crowns are custom made for the tooth and are usually permanently cemented to the tooth. Using the latest technology, we can fabricate dental crowns in our office in just one treatment.

Do you need a dental crown and are looking for a suitable solution? We will be happy to assist you professionally in finding a solution for your specific needs.

Experience and artificial intelligence

The technical progress in digital dentistry is enormous. 3D scans create a digital image of the teeth. Subsequently, the individual characteristics and movement sequences are analyzed by artificial intelligence. This data forms the basis for calculating the restoration. We have been using this technique in practice for over 25 years and continuously invest in the latest technology.

What is a dental crown?

The term dental crown describes restorations that restore the entire visible part of a tooth. This is necessary after severe structural damage to the tooth. Dental crowns are extremely precise custom-made restorations that withstand enormous loads for years.

Preservation of own teeth

Whenever possible, we try to preserve natural teeth in our practice. Due to the stabilizing effect of dental crowns, this is possible even with extensive defects. A predictable treatment success is possible even if only 2mm of own tooth substance is preserved above the gum level.

What are inlays and onlays?

Inlays and onlays are restorations that restore only part of the tooth. Whereas the dental crown goes around the whole tooth. Since they only cover the defective part of the tooth, a lot of healthy tooth structure can be preserved compared to the dental crown.

Big advantage of inlays and onlays over plastic dental fillings is the material and manufacturing. Dental fillings are placed in the mouth in a workable state and hardened there. During this process, the material shrinks, which can lead to troublesome food debris between the teeth with subsequent diseases.

Inlays and onlays are computer-milled from a block produced in a factory under idealized conditions. As a result, the restoration is precisely matched in shape and the restoration is very durable.

How are inlays and onlays fixed?

Inlays and onlays are bonded to the tooth using the adhesive technique. In this process, a micro-roughness is created on the surface of the tooth and restoration with the help of acid. This is the basis for the retention of a multi-component adhesive system. Correctly applied, very good bonding forces can be achieved with the technique.

Dental crown in one session

Dental crowns are extremely precise restorations that withstand high loads for years. This places enormous demands on the manufacturing process. We are equipped with state-of-the-art digital systems in our practice. These allow us to produce all-ceramic dental crowns made of zirconium oxide in one session.

CEREC-System

The word CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction. The system can be used to produce dental crowns, inlays, onlays, dental bridges or implant crowns, among other things, in the dental practice. The system was developed at the University of Zurich over 30 years ago and is the world leader in digital dentistry. We have over 20 years of experience with the system in our practice and have several complete CEREC systems in use today.

How long does a dental crown last?

We use high-strength, monolithic restorations in our practice. The workpieces used are ceramic blocks that have been produced in a standardized manner in a factory. Further processing in our practice is fully automatic. This method of production, coupled with the most modern materials suitable for the restoration in question, leads to very good long-term success.

The success of a restoration in your case depends on your personal risk profile, which we will prepare at the first appointment in our practice. You are most likely to have the same problem again that caused the problem today. We provide you with professional support to prevent this.

Monolithic restorations

Restorations that consist entirely of one substance are referred to as monolithic. Most fractures of dental crowns are due to defects in the manually applied layers. These are completely eliminated in this type of production.

Dental crown before-after

Here you will find some case studies from our practice on the treatment with dental crowns, as well as inlays and onlays. Our results have been published many times in the professional literature. All cases presented on our website have been completely treated in our practice.

Inlays and onlays in one session

The patient complained of pain in the poorly restored teeth and the metallic color prevented her from smiling. We were able to replace the restorations with ceramic inlays and onlays in just one visit.

Dental restoration with dental crowns and implants

The patient came to us with the desire for more stability on the teeth as well as an esthetic improvement. The structurally compromised teeth were restored with dental crowns and missing teeth were replaced with implants. The beautiful teeth gave the patient back lost quality of life.

Four dental crowns

The patient came to our practice with the wish for an esthetic improvement. She was bothered by the painful and unaesthetic plastic fillings on the front teeth. We were able to stabilize and visually beautify the teeth with four dental crowns.

Orthodontics, dental crowns and implants

Tooth loss of the back teeth resulted in displacement of the front teeth. In the complex case, the missing teeth were replaced with implants. The position of the teeth was corrected with braces and the teeth were firmly and aesthetically restored with dental crowns.

What makes beautiful teeth?

Implants and dental crowns

The patient lost some teeth many years ago. The missing teeth were replaced with a removable denture. He wanted an esthetic improvement and more quality of life with fixed teeth.

Orthodontics and dental crowns

The patient's wish was an esthetic and functional improvement. The too narrow dental arch was widened with braces. As a result, the teeth fit together better and more teeth are visible when laughing. The structurally impaired teeth were restored with dental crowns.

Modern treatments that delight

The possibilities offered by modern technologies inspire us and our patients.

How does digital dentistry work?

The precision of digital dentistry is impressive. 3D scanners and artificial intelligence, coupled with our many years of experience, open up a new world of treatment options.

3D scan instead of impression

The situation in the mouth is digitized using a high-precision 3D scanner. This data serves as the basis for calculating the restoration. Artificial intelligence is used here, which analyzes and takes into account the surrounding teeth and movement sequences.

Treatment costs

We create transparency to support you in your decision-making process as to which services you wish to use from a cost perspective. Our fundamental goal is that our patients achieve added value for themselves from the treatment.

Many of our patients have a long journey ⎸ 20min from Zurich airport in Germany

We know about the stresses and strains that come with a long journey. That's why we make sure that when you make the journey to us, something really happens.
