Esthetics and functionality

More and more adults are visiting an orthodontist because people nowadays are much more aware of esthetics. These patients are often diagnosed with disorders of their masticatory system. In nearly every case the patient comes to the dentist complaining that their dental hard tissue is worn out – but patients rarely associate this with their tooth displacement. Tooth and jaw adjustments can be carried out at any age. However, the treatment methods differ according to age, the patient’s individual problem and esthetic needs.

Using the most modern diagnostic methods we are able to develop tailor-made treatment plans based on recent studies and scientific findings, to create a charming smile. We communicate closely with our patients to try to learn more about their wishes, their medical and dental history, and to provide optimum therapy planning.

Clinical examination, functional diagnosis and photographic analysis

Our orthodontic treatment programme is based on a close examination of the teeth, the parodontium, the oral mucosa as well as the entire masticatory system, including masticatory muscles and the jaw joints. This good look at all of them will provide important parameters for an effective therapy programme, since a holistic treatment has positive effects on the entire masticatory system, as it does on the entire body.
Apart from teeth functioning correctly, they are essential for a wonderful smile. To put this into practice, we take various photographs of our patients and analyse them afterwards with the help of the computer.

Computerised X-ray diagnostics and model analysis

Latest radiologic diagnostics allow us to plan individual therapy following the findings of modern-day science. Three-dimensional pictures of teeth and bone structures allow the best possible diagnostics and therapy planning.
To be able to judge the sizes of spaces and the exact relations between the upper and lower jaw in three dimensions, 100 % precise models will be needed.

Planning the therapy

The best orthodontic treatment needs to fit to all of the patient’s individual characteristics. A gentle and effective therapy can only be guaranteed by state-of-the-art techniques and skills. The result will be not only be even teeth but furthermore an esthetic synergy of teeth, gums and lips. Often, even small changes in the tooth position lead to significant improvements from a cosmetic point of view.

Interdisciplinary treatment planning and consulting

For a successful outcome it is essential that the dentist and orthodontist cooperate. Complicated cases require expertise in different areas of dentistry such as esthetics, orthodontics, implantology, parodontology and prosthodontics. Since we combine these skills and cooperate in an interdisciplinary way within our own office we are able to guarantee our patients the very best results.

Combined orthodontic and jaw surgery

These forms of treatment are usually necessary in cases of skeletal mal-positioning; these cases place high demands on the medical staff  and the patients. We choose our cooperation partners very carefully.

In-depth consultation

The planning is be followed by a thorough discussion of several possible treatment options. We take our time to discuss the pros and cons in detail of all of the options so that our patients receive optimum support for their choice of treatment.

Interdisciplinary treatment case with orthodontics and two all-ceramic crowns.

Treatment sequence of a complex interdisciplinary treatment case. The first treatment step was the treatment of the carious lesions. Subsequently, the tooth position of the upper teeth was corrected using full-ceramic brackets. At the conclusion of the treatment the two upper central incisors were restored using full-ceramic single crowns.

Modern treatment methods

Fixed appliances

If teeth are very malpositioned, multi bracket appliances, so-called fixed braces, might be needed. We only use very modern self-ligating brackets and high performance arches made from top quality materials which are also used in aerospace technology. This allows us to achieve esthetically and functionally outstanding results carefully and in a short space of time. For those patients who have the highest esthetic demands – also during the treatment – it is possible to use ceramic brackets which are white and hardly visible. If the brackets must be completely invisible, we can make special individual brackets which can be fixed on the inner surface of the teeth. The whole treatment then takes place “incognito”.

Aligner therapy

The most innovative and convenient way of treatment today is the Invisalign® method. This way the correction is achieved by wearing ultra-thin transparent synthetic splints. Helped by a computer-aided state-of-the-arts procedure, the so-called “aligners” are produced from a thin transparent plastic film according to the orthodontist’s wishes. This method allows the teeth to be straightened without any wires or other aids. Normally, patients don’t even feel the splints while wearing them.

Weitere Informationen ▸
