Orthodontics for children and young people

Detailed examination

Orthodontic treatment ought to prevent dental or gingival diseases, improve the functionality and, of course, produce an esthetically appealing smile. The best start for the treatment depends on the cause of the malposition.
We like to meet our younger patients already before they enter school. In some cases it may be necessary to start treatment even earlier. Based on the most modern diagnostic methods and latest scientific data we design individual treatment plans for each of our patients – always aiming for a wonderful smile.

Medical history and clinical examination

In an in-depth conversation we try to find out everything about your wishes as well as your medical and dental past history to be able to plan the treatment according to your age and development. With all our patients, the teeth are examined in detail and the individual risk of tooth decay is taken into account. We base our orthodontic planning on these data.

Functional diagnostics and photo analysis

Examining the entire masticatory system including masticatory muscles and the jaw joints provides important parameters to design the therapy plan.  Comprehensive treatment will, naturally, have positive effects on biting, chewing, speaking and breathing. Apart from correct functionality our office also emphasises the esthetic well-being of our patients. To achieve the best effect we take different photographs of our patients and analyse them by computer afterwards.

Computer-aided X-ray and model diagnostics

Latest radiological diagnostic methods help us to guarantee an individual therapy. Three-dimensional pictures of teeth and bone structures allow the best possible diagnostics and therapy designs. To be able to judge the size of spaces and the exact relations between upper and lower jaw, 100 % precise models are needed because a correct analysis of space can prevent the extraction of healthy teeth.

Planning the therapy

The ideal orthodontic treatment should be perfectly adjusted to the patient’s characteristics. Only by using the latest techniques and knowledge, we can guarantee the most gentle and effective therapy. The result is not only straight teeth but also a highly esthetic interaction of teeth, gums and lips.

Orthodontic treatment appliances

In orthodontics, we differentiate between fixed and flexible appliances, so-called braces, because they differ in effect and application. A modern orthodontic office offers the entire range of therapeutic possibilities which are not only accepted by academic medicine but are also unobtrusive, comfortable and painless.

Removable appliances

Apart from regulating tooth displacement, flexible removable braces additionally impact the teeth’s growth. These so-called functional orthodontic treatment devices are very effective, especially when worn by children, teenagers and young people during their process of growth. These appliances do not only operate perfectly in the oral cavity; they also have a positive effect on head and body alignment. Additionally, there are other methods of treatment, such as oral vestibular shields for children to give up sucking habits, or mouth protectors for sportspeople.

Fixed orthodontic appliances

More distinct mal-positions of teeth should be treated with multi bracket appliances, so-called fixed braces. We only use the latest self-ligating brackets and high performance arches made from high quality materials, such as employed in aerospace technology. This allows us to achieve esthetically and functionally outstanding results carefully and in a short time period. For highest esthetic demands – also during the treatment – it is possible to use white ceramic brackets which are hardly visible. If appliances to straighten the teeth should not be seen at all, we can make special individual brackets which can be fixed on the inner surface of the teeth. The whole treatment then takes place “incognito”.

Aligner therapy

Thanks to the most innovative and convenient Invisalign method, a regulation of teeth malpositioning can be carried out invisibly. The ultra-thin transparent synthetic splints work without any metal. This makes for a stunning smile even in the course of an orthodontic therapy. The so called “aligners” are designed and produced in a computer-aided state-of-the-art procedure. Depending on of the kind of malposition, various numbers of splints will be needed which must be exchanged by the patient regularly according to the therapy design. For adults, this method is already established. However, juvenile patients now can be treated with InvisalignTeen.

Praxisbetrieb während der Coronakrise

Dr. Horvath – Zahnarzt Jestetten
Stand: 19.
